Real Estate - Sacramento Area
Sacramento’s history dates back to 1839 when it was settled by a man named Johann Augustus Sutter. Sacramento was originally founded where its two most prominent rivers converge, the American and Sacramento rivers. Shortly thereafter in 1848 gold was first discovered in the nearby town of Coloma; land which had been given to Mr. Sutter from the Mexican government when he had first settled.
The discovery of gold sparked a huge migration to the Sacramento area from all over the world. Just four years after California’s acceptance into the United States, Sacramento became the capital and has remained so since. Sacramento has developed into a world class city with booming business, excellent restaurants, and an abundance of shops and hotels while maintaining its Old West charm. In fact gold mining still takes place in the Sacramento foothills and makes a fun afternoon for tourists and residents alike.
The city of Sacramento is uniquely bordered by the Sacramento River to the north and Old Town Sacramento to the west. The city center boasts a plethora of hotels, restaurants, and of course the city’s convention center. Midtown is host to a number of Victorian homes and other cute homes with local bakeries, coffee shops, and boutiques interspersed within. Old Town is a great place to visit for a taste of the Wild West. Excellently preserved, Old Town has a railroad museum along with historic shops and restaurants lined by original wooden sidewalks. Those who have been before would not be surprised to see a horse-drawn carriage or two and even monuments recognizing the Pony Express.
Despite the small charm of Sacramento and its associated advantages, make no mistake, Sacramento is the real deal when it comes to big cities. Sacramento residents are wild about their NBA team, the Kings. The River Cats, a minor league baseball team, also calls Sacramento home and is a fun form of entertainment for those from Sacramento.
